Obviously, the title is a lie. Sharp Objects is a super grim murder mystery with heaping spoonfuls of family drama poured in whether we like it or not. Based on Gillian Flynn’s first novel, the show tells the story of Camille, a St. Louis journalist who’s goes home to cover the story of two missing and/or murdered girls. And home for Camille isn’t where the heart is.
Sharp Objects oozes tone and atmosphere, thanks to director Jean-Marc Vallée. It leans darker than his previous work at HBO, Big Little Lies, but still retains the ‘murder mystery driven by a strong female cast’ through-line. It scratches the itch left by True Detective and is just an incredible looking show. Everyone was firing on all cylinders.
You’ll have to listen to the episode to find out exactly how we feel as I don’t want to spoil any of the show here. And I am warning you, we talk about HARD spoilers on this episode of So…I’m Watching This Show. We recommend that if you haven’t seen it, go watch it.
