There was SO MUCH about Widows that got us hyped. First of all, who doesn’t love Viola Davis? Idiots, that’s who. We’re ready for her to do literally anything and since she’s in this, we watched it. But she’s not the only one in this we will watch do literally anything. Cue Elizabeth Debicki and Carrie Coon. Sprinkle on Michelle Rodriguez and our new love Cynthia Erivo and Widows is PACKED with many of our favorite actresses! What’s not to love?!
Spoiler alert: We totally loved it. And so did our friend from the Offscreen Babble podcast, Sade! She joins us today in our very spirited talk about Widows and she was able to offer some incredible insight into the racial undertones in the film along with her outright JOY that this film exists. It was so great having her own and hopefully we didn’t scare her off!
Widows is start to finish excellent. It tells a really deep story without getting bogged down like so many organized crime films do. The characters are fresh and likable and real, it’s shot beautifully, and it’ll get Oscar buzz no doubt. Director Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave) knocked this one out of the park.
So please put on your latex gloves, armor up, and join us for today’s episode of So…I’m Watching This Show!
