We had a busy-ass weekend seeing stuff just so we could tell you guys all about them! You’re going to get it all in a way different order than we saw things, but you’ll follow along pretty easily. We’re good storytellers.
Today we’re talking first about Mortal Engines; the latest YA novel adapted into a big budget teenage melancholy shit show. We didn’t love this movie, but we didn’t hate it. It was big and flashy but we found ourselves really liking the smaller scale sets that were surprisingly practical. As in built and filmed on camera, not practical in the ‘sensible’ way. It was OK, and if you like that particular brand of YA stuff, you’ll probably at least enjoy it a little.
Next, Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse. This movie is a feast for the eyes, whether you want to eat it or not. Visually stunning, Spider-verse is insane to watch, but manages to find down time for really great character beats as well. And for a movie about multiple Spider-beings from other dimensions crossing into ours, it’s surprisingly easy to follow. You should see this on the big screen, 100%
Lastly we have a quick chat about the Sabrina “special”. Sadly it was pretty much just an episode which takes place around the Solstice. It was great, but we had our hopes up it would be more like one of the Doctor Who specials, which tend to be feature length. It was good though. We recommend watching the first ten episodes before watching this simply because it’s really good, but this episode is totally watchable on its own.
Well after that super long description I think it’s time to just get to it. So gather round while we spin a few tales for you on today’s episode of So…I’m Watching This Show!
