We can’t rightly say that our expectations were high for Aquaman. We like Jason Momoa, and Wil has been waiting for a movie like this for nearly 30 years. So excitement was high, but based on the first couple trailers we weren’t exactly sold on it.
After seeing it, Aquaman didn’t quite prove us wrong, but it was a passable addition to the DCEU and may be enough to keep WB from scrapping the whole operation and starting from scratch. The movie was nuts, in a good way. The blind insanity of some of the set pieces and action sequences really kept the movie afloat amid a pretty weak script. And Patrick Wilson and Nicole Kidman’d commitment to the wildness was able to steer the ship to shore. I don’t know if we’d say it was a good movie; it certainly doesn’t hold a candle to Wonder Woman. But it’s very watchable and fun in a way most of the other DCEU movies aren’t.
And as for Wil’s lifelong wait for this film – Well, he cried no less than four times during Aquaman. You can find out what sent him over the edge on today’s episode of So…I’m Watching This Show!
