Netflix’s Marvel Universe started off really strong with Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Unfortunately, they slipped a bit with Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Defenders. But The Punisher was a ray of light for the franchise. The first season far surpassed expectations and quickly became a favorite of the series not only for us, but for everyone. And it of course gave us the unsinkable Frank and Karen ship.
Sadly, season 2 falls prey to the same problems so many of the other Netflix Marvel shows have, and then some. The worst offender? The villains. There are too many, and they’re too poorly realized, and falsely motivated. Billy is back as “Jigsaw”, even though his face looks like it was lightly scratched and well put back together. The ex-racist but maybe still racist Pilgrim arrived out of nowhere, controlled by some rich people who want to rule the world but who are also mad that their son is gay? I don’t know.
The Punisher season 2 is not without it’s plusses but they are few and far between and honestly we don’t talk about them very long because they don’t warrant much talking. Go into this knowing that ultimately we were both pretty disappointed by this season. So now that you’re sufficiently sad, grab a slice of Lombardi’s and settle in for a melancholy episode of So…I’m Watching This Show.
