Look, I’m just gonna say it: If you don’t like the LEGO Movies, you have a dark heart. There’s no way to dislike these movies if you’re a fully functioning human. If you walked out of either movie and someone said “What did you think?” and you said “meh”, seek help. These movies are so fun, and so appropriate for kids.
We start today’s episode with a look back at the first LEGO Movie from 2014. We can’t say it’s the movie that “started it all” per se. There are tons of LEGO animated properties on TV or streaming. However, this was the first time LEGO exploded onto the big screen. And as we are fully functioning humans (see above) we both totally loved it. The story is big fun, the one song should get old but it doesn’t, and the lesson at the end is easy to digest for viewers young and old. But Wil wasn’t yet sold on the sequel.
Turns out, adding more songs to a series definitely amps Wil’s enjoyment because everyone loved LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part . The main players return (Pratt, Banks, Arnett, Brie), and they add Tiffany Haddish, who gets a great song you’ll hear sampled in our episode. It adds to the original in really interesting ways, while remaining a fun and easy-to-follow story for the target audience, literal children.
So what exactly did we like about the LEGO Movies? A ton. You can find out what made us laugh, cry, and cheer (with the help of loads of samples) on today’s episode of So…I’m Watching This Show!
