If you had told a 20 year old Wil that one of his favorite movies was going to be the Tarantino revisionist history epic about World War II, he’d have slapped you in the face. But it turns out, Inglourious Basterds immediately hit the list for both Wil and Kristin. And rightfully so. It really is a masterpiece.
Set against a Nazi-occupied France, Inglourious Basterds follows several characters on their sometimes-overlapping quest to kill Hitler, and one Nazi’s mission to stop them. Pretty straight forward. It doesn’t exactly sound like a romp. But that’s the thing about Tarantino. Everything he makes is a romp because he likes to make movies more than he likes to tell stories. And what I mean by that is that his movies aren’t about realism, they’re about style. And it almost always works out in his favor.
Today we’re joined by our book editor Tim, who confessed to us recently that he had never seen Inglourious Basterds. That sounded like sin to us, so we made him watch it then come on the show to go over his experience with us! To find out exactly what we all thought, fill your milk glass, grab a strudel and settle in for today’s episode of So…I’m Watching This Show!
