We aren’t exactly action movie people. Sure we can appreciate a good action film, but even including disaster movies they are few and far between. Heck, Kristin hasn’t even seen the Matrix. Enter: the John Wick franchise.
The first John Wick kinda flew under everyone’s radar, including husband/editor Will who tends to like a stupid action movie every now and then. So it wasn’t until way after Chapter 2 was released that he started paying attention. Cue Will recommending the series for about a year before the release of Chapter 3 was fast approaching. Wil and Kristin both finally gave in and watched John Wick and Chapter 2 back to back, and wouldn’t you know it, they loved them!
They were right to be wary of them as on the surface they seem like just bland action schlock. But the first movie is very stylish, and the second movie deepens the lore in unexpectedly interesting ways. This is a recipe for success in the So…I’m Watching This Show household. Not to mention just how good and digestible the action is. The franchise is helmed by Keanu’s long time stunt double and stunt coordinator Chad Stahelski.
So we sat down and recorded our thoughts after each movie, including Chapter 3: Parabellum. Spoiler Alert: We really liked that one too. It was really in your face with the action, moreso than the previous two, but it didn’t feel like it was at the expense of the story. Plus, we really liked all the stuff they did with Halle Berry and her dogs. So grab yourself a cozy seat at the Continental bar, order a brandy, and get ready for today’s episode of So…I’m Watching This Show!
