Toy Story 3 very nicely put a bow on the franchise. It was touching, funny, deeply personal, and sad all at the same time. Arguably it’s the best in the series and doesn’t require a followup. So color us surprised when they announced Toy Story 4.
Going in to Toy Story 4, we knew we were going to get at least one thing we wanted; Bo Peep. She unceremoniously disappeared from the franchise after the OG flick and Wil could not have been more mad. In fact, you can hear why she was replaced by Barbie in our episode. Wil has done the research and he has the receipts. Despite our initial apprehension about 4, we got very excited when we found out she’d be back.
What we were NOT expecting was the existential hell nightmare that is Forky, Bonnie’s toy she hand made from garbage. All he wants to be is trash for the first 30-40 minutes of the film – trying to essentially kill himself at every turn. Doctoral theses on the morality of forced life will be written about Forky. It’s nuts. He does eventually come around, but it’s a slow road.
Ultimately, we really loved Toy Story 4, but maybe for different reasons than the last three. The weirdness really sets it apart from the earlier movies and it’s even pretty scary at points. So if you’re ready to hear our thoughts, get ready for about 20 solid minutes of talk about Bo Peep and our history with her on today’s episode of So…I’m Watching This Show!
