Everybody knows that story of the Headless Horseman to some extent. You know there’s at the very least a headless guy on a horse that comes around and kills some people. But of you look into it a bit more, it gets very interesting. Enter Tim Burton’s 1999 work, Sleepy Hollow.
We’ve always enjoyed this movie. It’s got just the right amount of Burton charm, it’s got a not-gross Johnny Depp, and we stan Miranda Richardson so we were in right away. It’s gross but fun and vile but pretty all at the same time. It is tonally some excellent work. That said, the movie isn’t all we talk about. Wil did some deep diving into the original lore of the Headless Horseman and clues us all in on the history.
All in all the roots of the story as well as Sleepy Hollow are really interesting. The story is really creepy on its own, so putting it in the hands of Tim Burton really was a match made in heaven. And gosh it holds up so well. It’s so stylized and practical that the effects really age well, with the exception of one of two things. We super recommend it and you can find out why on today’s episode of So…I’m Watching This Show!
