Bombshell has been highly anticipated by us since it was announced. I mean how could we not be hype for it? It promised to be a takedown of Fox News. It stars a PILE of actresses we love, and even some actors. And it looked to take on that fun style Adam McKay has been applying to his latest two non-fic inspired flicks, The Big Short and Vice.

Turns out, Bombshell was a pretty unbiased picture about a very specific series of events. It focuses a pretty unbiased eye on Megyn Kelly, Gretchen Carlson and many others’ experiences of sexual harassment at the news outlet. It’s not a hit piece in the slightest, which turns out was a good thing. It really let all the actresses involved shine and even managed to humanize Megyn Kelly a little. It was a little soft on their ridiculous journalism practices and the caricatures that permeate Fox News. It eexists strictly to show how much of a creep Roger Ailes was, and it executes on that in spades.

Where the movie lacks is style. Director Jay Roach struggled to keep that McKay style throughout the movie making the scene that did stick out like a sore thumb. Megyn Kelly addressing camera only works if it happens consistently. Otherwise it’s totally immersion-breaking.

Overall Bombshell is not a bad movie. In fact it’s a pretty good one. But it does fall short in a few areas that we’ll discus more thoroughly on today’s episode of So…I’m Watching This Show!
