The Witcher is Netflix’s latest stab at a tentpole medieval fantasy. It’s an attempt to not only fill the gap left by Game of Thrones concluding, but also bring a big Hollywood name into their community. Henry Cavill, née Superman, plays Geralt of Rivia, a Witcher just going about his business of monster hunting. That is, until he accidentally cosmically attaches himself to a young princess and has to find her for reasons.
Season 1 of The Witcher was a mixed bag for the SIWTS team. Kristin and Wil were both somewhat underwhelmed by it. Wil actually spends a lot of time talking about the things he didn’t like, particularly the three timelines. There are three “main” characters: Yennifer, Geralt, and Cirilla (Ciri). Think of them respectively as past, present, and future. Eventually they all catch up to one another, but eight episodes of gentle connections between each timeline wasn’t enough to keep it interesting.
The thing is though, we’re both kind of excited to see where season 2 takes us. With the multiple timelines resolved we think the show might benefit from a more clear path now that Geralt and Ciri are together. We just hope it doesn’t totally lose the monster of the week stuff that Geralt was doing. Well, husband/editor Will wishes that.
Well grab some coins for tossing and sit down with us while we breakdown the Witcher on today’s episode of So…I’m Watching This Show!
