For Kristin, Little Women is basically in her DNA. She grew up on the 1994 Winona Ryder version, and has read the book multiple times. She’s even read Little Men, the book’s first sequel. With that much history, she was a little apprehensive about the new Greta Gerwig version. Timothee Chalamet as Laurie? She didn’t think so.

While the shoes of Christian Bale were hard to fill, Timothee nailed it. First they released that first dance sequence between and Jo. You know the one. With that scene, Kristin’s fears started to abate and after seeing the movie, all her fears had absolutely disintegrated. It became easily her favorite movie of the year and we have since seen it a second time in the theater. The movie as a whole is an outright masterpiece and this version will be the one people remember going forward. Years from now when another remake inevitably hits production, Greta’s version of Little Women will be the one it gets compared to. It is definitive.

This episode, we introduce Wil to the 1994 version and have a quick little chat about it before heading out to see the new one (again for Kristin, first time for Wil). Wil loved Greta’s as well, and without a quarter century of nostalgia attached, easily held it up over ’94. Little Women is a brilliant movie and if you’re ready to gush over it too, please join us for today’s episode of So…I’m Watching This Show!
