Despite the utter failure of Suicide Squad, we had our hopes up for Birds of Prey. It’s impossible to not be excited for Harley Quinn in the hands of Margot Robbie. It’s like she was built in a lab specifically to play that role. It’s divine casting. And this time around she’s pulling double duty as producer. So we were hoping that with her guidance this new film would be far better than its predecessor.
And we were right, for the most part. Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn is big fun. It gives us some great moments, some new characters to fall in love with, and even a couple villains you love to hate. It doesn’t forget the style and flair of SS, but it does it better in most places without falling into the same holes. If you want a flashy, girl gang super hero flick, this movie is for you.
It is however not without its faults. The structure of the movie is a little lacking, and becomes overly complex to tell a relatively simple story. And on top of that it takes too long to get the Birds themselves together. I won’t over-elaborate here for fear of unwanted spoilers, but if you want to hear how we felt about the movie as a whole then grab an egg sandwich, hold onto it TIGHT, and strap in for today’s episode of So…I’m Watching This Show!
