Atonement was Joe Wright’s 2007 followup to his well-loved feature directing debut Pride and Prejudice. Pretty solid start if you ask us. His muse Keira Knightley followed him into what we think is the best of their three collaborations to date, the third being Anna Karenina. This is also the world’s big introduction to the absolute powerhouse that is Saoirse Ronan. It’s a wild ride and much more than Wil expected.
Yet another win for Kristin, this is Wil’s first viewing of Atonement at her request. Her record of recommending movies to Wil continues to improve. Wil went into it expecting it to be simply a period drama. What he got was a time hopping twisty and turny story that kept him engaged from start to finish. He even thinks it’ll wind up on his best of 2020 list, despite its 2007 release date.
As mentioned, Atonement is full of unexpected twists and turns. If you are sitting down to listen to us talk about it for an hour, we highly recommend you watch the movie first, if you haven’t already. We of course give about ten minutes of non-spoiler talk but after that everything is fair game. If you’re ready though, grab a seat on the cool stone of a fountain and settle in for today’s romantic and sexy episode of So…I’m Watching This Show!
