Apple TV+ is a bit of an enigma. Most of the other streaming services seem to be scurrying to scoop up whatever outside content they can find in order to fill their library. Not so with Apple. Apple TV+ is a much more curated experience. And while they do have other channels you can subscribe to and movies that require purchase, their content collection remains relatively small. However, they certainly have a quality over quantity situation going. Everything we’ve seen from Apple has been really good, and such is the case with Dickinson.

Dickinson is a somewhat biographical look at the life of poet Emily Dickinson. The twist is that even though it takes place in the 1840s, it’s made with a modern sensibility. It is extremely vivid and colorful, unlike the times, and the entire soundtrack is hip hop. It works stylistically, but also thematically. I mean who would you say are the most prolific modern day poets? It’s rappers; there’s really not much denying it.

We both really loved Dickinson. It isn’t some dour retelling of the politics of the time. It’s fun and bright and Wiz Khalifa plays death and we think that’s pretty cool. It’s so stylistically up our alley that there really was a fat chance we wouldn’t like it. But now that we’ve finally watched it, we’re glad we did. Expect an episode about season 2, but probably not until it’s over.

So have you seen Dickinson? If so, what did you think? If not, well we don’t super think our episode is very spoilery but we do highly recommend going and watching it!
