It is well-publicized that we are Magicians stans. We watched it all live, we cried at all the right parts, we love it. The Magicians is honestly among the best TV shows of the past decade, and probably all time. We love it, we love it, we love it. So of course a movie based on a short story written by Magicians author Lev Grossman landed HARD on our radar. Enter, The Map of Tiny Perfect Things.

The Map of Tiny Perfect Things tells the story of two teenagers stuck in a time loop together with seemingly no way out. They don’t know why they are stuck living the same day over and over again, but they are. On their many days together, they have decided to make a map of all the “perfect things” that happen in their town that day. A hawk grabbing a fish out of a serene lake, a janitor who thinks he’s alone playing piano at a concert level, a man’s pants falling down, etc. You get the point. Like most time loop movies, you don’t need to know the science. Just ride it out. It’s a YA romance, not everything needs to be answered.

As we sort of expected, we both loved The Map of Tiny Perfect Things! Lev Grossman has a way with characters and this short, which he penned into a feature-length script, was no exception. We thought Mark and Margaret were cute and never annoying like some teens tend to be. And we thought the surrounding characters, despite seeing them unknowingly repeating the same day, were really impactful in different ways. We really liked this movie a lot, and we liked it more and more the longer we talked about it.
