Today’s we’re checking out Gone Girl, Fincher’s 2014 adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s star-making novel. Before you freak out, of course we’ve seen this before. We all loved the book, and we all love Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. Like we weren’t going to be there opening night. David Fincher himself is even a huge draw, despite his previous film, another adaptation in Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, underwhelming. So yeah, no surprises here, we love this movie.

One big surprise for us in Gone Girl was Carrie Coon, playing Affleck’s twin sister Margo. This was by and large her first major role and it was love at first sight. She so great in this movie. Not only does she stand out on her own, but most of her scenes are shared with larger than life, more famous than God Ben Affleck. And she totally holds her own, and even gets several chances to outshine him. Her character is so interesting and done so well that we couldn’t not love her. Casey Wilson also shows up and does her job as “local idiot”. She’s such a cringe trigger for husband/editor Will, but she’s really great in the role and you can’t not laugh at her absurdity.

So Gone Girl is a big favorite. One of the best Fincher flicks, and Affleck and Pike steer this ship of stars perfectly from start to finish. What do you think of Gone Girl?
