Last Night In Soho is another one of those movies with a lot of ingredients we like. It was written and directed by Edgar Wright, stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Thomasin McKenzie, Matt Smith, and Diana Rigg just to name a few. And it pays homage to the classic 60s and 70s horror films Wright grew up with. It looked stylish and fun but also spooky and supernatural. We were pretty excited.
And we wound up liking Last Night in Soho a lot! It is a bit of a departure for Wright as this sheds his kind of iconic comedy underpinnings. However that gave way for this to be very true to the genre it’s emulating, so it worked. Not unlike the giallo films that came before it, the third act of Last Night in Soho gets a little banana pants and that didn’t exactly fly with Wil. But it wasn’t enough to tarnish the experience for him. And Kristin just flat out loved this.
