We’re running out of COVID casualty films! One of the last ones is Ghostbusters Afterlife, which was supposed to come out last summer. Well it’s finally here this weekend and we decided to brush up on our Ghostbusters lore! Afterlife is a direct sequel to the first two films, so we watched those, and while we were in the spirit we decided to revisit the 2016 reboot as well.

Ghostbusters was never either of our “thing”. Being young when we were it was unavoidable, with so many toys and the cartoon still floating around. But it never really hit a chord with Kristin at that time and it downright terrified Wil. So the franchise just kind of existed as this entity they knew most people liked. Upon revisiting the OG films, we feel roughly the same. They are fun and definitely a bit of a product of their time, but we still don’t find them to be the cinematic masterpieces that some others do. That said, Afterlife has us very interested. A young cast plus Carrie Coon and Paul Rudd will hopefully bring the series into a new era.

The 2016 Ghostbusters reboot had a hard time punching through all the controversy surrounding it. None of it was warranted and we truly think time will be kind to this film. It’s very funny and Kate McKinnon is VERY sexy in it. It doesn’t quite have the same vibe as the originals, but it works really well for us, still.

So what do you guys think? That’s a big ask on a podcast which covers three films, but we want to hear what you have to say. Are the original Ghostbusters movies as good as people say? Should the 2016 film even exist? Let us know over on Twitter or in the Youtube comments! Our coverage of all three films is posted separately over there so come chat! The podcast is just all our coverage kinda slammed together so excuse the copious use of our theme song. For now though, bust some ghosts, feel good, and settle in for today’s ectoplasm-covered episode of So…I’m Watching This Show!
